The brand is the result of the creativity, passion and hard work of Lucas Newman and Steve Purcell, childhood friends with a love of barbering, surf and skate. Newman discovered the world of barbering while living in Portland Oregon. There was an old-school barbershop near the café where he always drank his coffee. Every day he watched the barbershop and admired how timeless the profession of barbering is. He knew this was the job he would always want to do. Back in Australia, he found an internship and the rest is history. Purcell has now been a barber for 13 years. He started because he didn't like school and his father told him he needed to learn a trade. When Steve's brother got a trim, he saw that the barber was looking for an apprentice. Steve seized this opportunity to leave the textbooks behind and enter the world of barbering. With a desire to work in an environment that reflected who they were, and create a welcoming place for the boys to come and chill, they decided to open their own store.

At the time, barbering was not very popular in Australia and often misunderstood. But Luke and Steve stayed true to their calling, learned their craft well and brought masculinity back to the barber chair. Today, Steve thoroughly enjoys his old friends who now wait in long lines to take a seat in his barber chair.

Uppercut Deluxe Pomade was born out of frustration with using mediocre products that didn't fit their store; products that were geared more toward women than men. This motivated the guys to create something they could be proud of.
