In 1999, Layrite's founder Donnie Hawley ran into a problem. More and more customers were asking for a beautiful pompadour or slick back, but the styling product had to be easily washable. All the products Donnie was using were petroleum-based, and that's not so easy to get out of your hair.

While many barbers were left holding hands, Donnie joined forces. He developed a water-based pomade that was soó made that it had the hold of a Wax, but was washable like a Gel. This product, of course, was the Layrite Original Pomade.

The quote from one of Donnie's customers read: \"This is the only product that makes my hair lay right." Et voilà: a brand was born!

Layrite set a tone, and to this day, this is still the standard that barbers around the world strive to live up to. Layrite products have often been ïmitigated, but never successfully imitated.
